Dave Brubeck - Master of Jazz

Tonight, the Kennedy Center focused on extreme talent of the country's greatest artists, one of whom was Dave Brubeck.

Dave Brubeck is one of the people that defined the sound of the American jazz pianist. He has written a number of jazz standards including "In Your Own Sweet Way" and "The Duke". Brubeck's style ranges from refined to wild, reflecting both his mother's attempts at classical training to his improvisational skills. His music is known for using unusual time signatures, and superimposing contrasting rhythms, meters, and tonalities. The Dave Brubeck Quartet’s defining masterpiece, Time Out is one of the most rhythmically innovative albums in jazz history, the first to consciously explore time signatures outside of the standard 4/4 beat or 3/4-waltz time. Columbia Records wasn't to happy releasing such an artsy fartsy project, and many critics initially roasted him for tampering with jazz's rhythmic foundation. But for once, the public’s taste was more advanced than that of the critics. Boosted by a hit single “Take Five” written by long-time musical partner, alto saxophonist Paul Desmond, and Time Out became an unexpectedly huge success, and has endured as a jazz classic and best seller since.

No one has ever even come close to the sound that is Dave Brubeck.

Crystal Head Vodka

I recently came across one of the most unique and genuinely interesting products on the market today. It is Crystal Head Vodka and is produced by our own favorite actor/funnyman Dan Aykroyd in Canada.

Crystal Head Vodka has become one of the most exciting and interesting vodka products to ever hit the shelves in liquor stores across the US. With every Crystal Head Vodka sale we make, I tell the customers of the story of the crystal skulls and their legendary mystical powers. Our Crystal Head Vodka sales have been steadily increasing since we began offering it in early summer.

The Crystal Head Vodka 750ml is the only size bottle available at this time and because of the interest in the bottle itself, it may remain the only size for quite some time to come. We offer the Crystal Head Vodka for sale at just under $45.00 plus sales tax. The Crystal Head Vodka price is in the premium range. Crystal Head Vodka prices range from $45.00 to $55.00 nationwide. If you are paying more than $55.00 for it, it better be a bottle of Crystal Head Vodka signed by Dan Aykroyd himself.

In the video introducing Crystal Head Vodka Dan Aykroyd discusses the unique properties of it's distillation process in Canada and it's mystical history. After watching his short video and the other videos describing it, only two thoughts come to your mind:

"Where to buy Crystal Head Vodka?" Answer - Buy Crystal Head Vodka here at Break Away II Sports lounge today.

and...

"Crystal Head Vodka Buy it now while it is still available at one of the best prices in the nation!"

I Dont Want To Miss My Swine Flu Shot

Will you be denied the swine flu shot?
It is without doubt one of the big questions that you will have to answer. No one gets to avoid this very fundamental question, and everyone will be asking it regardless of who they are, and what their interests may be. It is the reason my friend Stephen Carter created his latest site: Survive Pandemic Flu

The question: Will you get the swine flu shot? Will you even be eligible to receive it?

Stephen contacted me recently and helped me realize that very few people have fully appreciated the fact that shortly the biggest and most costly inoculation program in the history of public health will be launched. The cost to U.S. taxpayers alone to foot the bill for a swine flu vaccine will be in the vicinity of 10 billion dollars.

I agree with Stephen that most people are likely to jump at the opportunity to get the vaccine. What I did not fully appreciate, and what most others probably also do not fully understand, are the pros and cons of doing so. I certainly was not aware that there may only be sufficient vaccine to inoculate a select portion of the population, so many of us may be required to forgo our spot in the line.

In fact, instead of the expected delivery in October 2009 of an initial 120 million swine flu doses to inoculate the U.S. population, vaccine manufacturers say they will be able to come up with only 45 million doses. This means that tens of millions of Americans will be left vulnerable in the event that the virus finds a way to turn more deadly - something that influenza is known to have done in past pandemics.

What I learned from reading Stephen's book is that, without a vaccine in place, perhaps fully one third of the global population will contract swine flu in the next 12 months. This is why the inoculation program is all but certain, even if it appears that it will now be delayed.

The other thing worth keeping in mind is that economic times are tough, and the U.S. government would hardly be looking to dole out 10 billion dollars on a vaccine program if there was not a very real concern that things could turn bad very quickly with this pathogen.

This is why you want to make sure you fully understand the situation, and prepare yourself in the event that you find yourself ineligible for the first batches of this vaccine, which by all accounts will be in limited supply for the duration of 2009.

Kenneth Lee Worley - Medal of Honor

Kenneth Lee Worley is causing a stir these days. The young US Marine gave his life in Vietnam to protect his fellow soldiers. He did in fact receive the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions, but until now, he has been relatively unknown in America.

Few people knew anything about him. Even fewer even remembered him. That is changing. A number of people throughout the US are giving their time and resouurces to get the word out on Worley and will eventually have a bronze statue created in his honor.

American Valor has set aside several pages about the growing story on Kenneth Worley.
In time, the complete Kenneth Lee Worley will be known.

AMC Liquidators

Liquidations are back in the news again, with this AP story tracing where alleged Ponzi schemer R. Allen Stanford's furniture ended up. AMC Liquidators of Fort Lauderdale, Florida has been selling his stuff off:

Michael Grimme is the owner of AMC. His business specializes in emptying hotels, offices and stores of unwanted furnishings and then reselling them. Business is up in recent years due to bankruptcies and downsizing. AMC is among many companies that have flourished during the downturn because even the wealthy have fallen on hard times. Repossessors take back yachts, planes and luxury cars, and even pawn shops have seen a rise in rich folks selling items.

Related to this topic are going-out-of-business and liquidation sales, the latter of which are run by companies like AMC.
